Project Description
In the BEAM Research Lab, we conduct research projects investigating the emotions, beliefs, and attitudes that children, adolescents, and young adults have about mathematics. We are a hybrid research lab, with communication and many project tasks done online (Microsoft Teams, Zoom), while data collection and participant recruitment for some projects are done in person.

Current and upcoming projects that undergraduate research assistants will work on include:
• Investigating the Prevalence and Influences of Math-related Social Media Posts: Search for math-related social media posts (e.g., #girlmath) on Instagram and Facebook and enter them into data entry surveys;
• Effects of ChatGPT on Self-regulated Statistics Learning: In-person experiment to test if using ChatGPT as a resource while learning basic statistical concepts can impact learning and affective outcomes in college students;
• Understanding Children’s Abilities on Different Fraction Types: Online study to investigate elementary and middle-school student’s fraction skills and math anxiety;
• Child & Adolescent Research (CAR) Registry: Attendance at recruitment events in Bryan/College Station for a child & adolescent research registry;
Note: All lab members must complete CITI program certification to collect data from human research subjects.
