Academic Administration

Project Description
Recent disruptions in policies governing federal funding agencies have led to two compounding challenges. First, the need for securing alternative sources for funding has rapidly increased, and the number of faculty with experience engaging the private sector is limited in most colleges. Second, administrative capacity is strained, and the ability to support new strategic initiatives is limited. Therefore, the purpose of this administrative project is to expand institutional research capacity by launching a private sector leadership program for faculty and staff. To jumpstart this program, Phase II of a planned workshop will start with a bootcamp to prepare participants to lead multidisciplinary collaborative private sector engagement teams. These participants will then join the new program to discuss leading effective collaborative teams as well as receive targeted support for proposal development. Preparation for launching this program will include planning part of the bootcamp, designing the structure of the periodic team leader meetings, consulting with various college-level administrative units, coordinating institutional linkages, developing formative and summative assessments, and cultivating the team leader community of practice. Participants in this collaborative project will play an unusually impactful role in effecting institutional transformation.

Team Needs
Given the potential impact on the university, team members will need to commit 2 hours/week, as well as commit to meet as a team every other week. It would be helpful to have team members with different experiences, perspectives, such as faculty from other TAMU System universities, administrative staff from college-level administrative units, anyone whose application to join a leadership program was rejected, or those who have a history of private sector engagement.

Special Opportunities
Team members would not only will gain administrative experience by launching an unusually impactful new strategic initiative, but also will have a transformative impact on faculty and staff professional development at Texas A&M and the TAMU System. There will be also be an opportunity to co-author a peer-reviewed journal article based on this experience. Opportunities will be developed to present the program results to Texas A&M System Universities and a growing number of institutions partnering with Aggie Collaborate.
