Description:
|
The purpose of this research is to locally combat food insecurity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by decreasing the amount of food waste produced in the community. Nearly 40% of our food supply in the United States is either wasted or never consumed, creating a substantial deficit in our personal health, economy, and environment. As of now, in Brazos County alone, over 17% of residents are classified as food insecure, an increase from 15% from 2019. Working with civic leaders and government officials, our research team will contact municipalities with similar ordinances and policies as well as research opportunities and limitations within our current by-laws. Thus, leading to the development of a final Food Waste Resolution Ordinance for both the cities of Bryan and College Station.
