Project Description
Stable flies are a cosmopolitan blood-feeding pests of livestock. Due to limitations of insecticide effectiveness, genetic control methods offer potential benefits as part of current stable fly integrated pest management programs. This program will focus on the development of transgenic stable fly strains for enhancing sterile insect technique, microinjection, cryogenic preservation of embryos, and possible embryogenesis and bioinformatics research opportunities as they arise.

Team Needs
Willingness to learn and engage scientific literature. Molecular biology/molecular genetics experience preferred.

Special Opportunities
Biomolecular research and potential to present research poster(s) and student research, wet-lab genetics experience, bioinformatics experience.
