Project Description
Dementia affects millions of individuals worldwide, with Alzheimer's disease among the most complex neurodegenerative conditions. This project explores the potential of immersive technology, particularly virtual reality, as a novel approach in dementia research and intervention development.
The research investigates how VR-based systems and technologies may be applied within dementia study, including their potential role in creating controlled experimental environments for understanding disease mechanisms and interactive platforms for patient engagement and cognitive assessment. The project aims to bridge preclinical research with translational applications, examining how immersive technologies could inform new therapeutic pathways, support existing clinical approaches, and contribute to a deeper understanding of how the brain responds to immersive, adaptive environments over time.
Team Needs
We are looking for motivated and adaptable team members who are eager to contribute to an interdisciplinary VR and dementia research environment. Students from engineering, computer science, neuroscience, psychology, healthcare, biomedical sciences, and related backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Ideal team members should be open to learning new research methods, collaborating across disciplines, and engaging with immersive technologies in a research setting. Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to contribute to both technical and research-oriented tasks will be valuable assets to the team.
Special Opportunities
Team members will have the opportunity to work within a collaborative VR research environment focused on immersive technologies and dementia-related applications. Participants will gain exposure to emerging VR systems, interdisciplinary research workflows, and ongoing innovation in healthcare technology. The experience may include opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, collaborate with researchers and peers across different projects, contribute to presentations at research conferences, and potentially participate in future publication efforts related to the project.
